Part III of the NCOER, Duty Description

This is an effort to list MOS-specific examples of Areas of Special Interest but we need your input. Examples received will be listed below.

Areas of Special Emphasis

Within the Areas of Special Emphasis block, include any additional duties associated with your job or MOS (Military Occupational Specialty), if applicable. These duties are specific responsibilities that you are accountable for, in addition to the duties outlined in the Daily Duties and Scope section. For instance, in a maintenance shop, examples of additional duties could include being a Tool Room Monitor, Training NCO, or TMDE (Test, Measurement, and Diagnostic Equipment) Monitor. It’s important to note that not everyone has additional duties, and this section is meant to highlight those that are relevant to your role.

Appointed Duties

In the Appointed Duties block, document any additional duties assigned to you that extend beyond your primary job or MOS. These duties often support the entire unit rather than being confined to your specific work center or section. Some examples of appointed duties include being a BOSS (Better Opportunities for Single Soldiers) Representative, UPL (Unit Prevention Leader), or Career Counselor. It’s important to remember that not everyone is assigned an appointed duty.
