Mrs. Jane Doe 123 Any Street Anyplace, Texas 12345-6789

I am writing to express our deepest condolences for the loss of your son, Private First Class John S. Doe. The entire unit joins me in sending our sincerest sympathies and understanding during this difficult time of bereavement.

John was an exceptional soldier within the 555th Support Battalion. Personally, I witnessed the outstanding professionalism he displayed while fulfilling various important roles in support of his unit and the Battalion’s mission. Beyond his military duties, John actively engaged in the community, particularly in his involvement with the church and physical fitness activities. His infectious personality fostered teamwork and positive motivation, and he always wore a smile on his face.

John was undeniably a top-notch performer. He was chosen from among his peers as the Soldier of the Quarter for the period of 1 October through 31 December 2005, at both the Company and Battalion level. This remarkable achievement exemplifies his dedication and exceptional qualities as a soldier. I have enclosed a picture of John receiving this well-deserved award here in Camp Atter.

Please be assured that we share in your pain and sorrow and offer our heartfelt final respects to one of our dearest friends and comrades. John’s absence will undoubtedly be deeply felt by all of us.

WILLIAM A. ROBINSON Colonel, XO Commander
