Role of Sexual Assault Response Coordinator (SARC)
As the Sexual Assault Response Coordinator (SARC) in a Combat Aviation Brigade consisting of five CONUS battalions, this individual serves as the principal advisor to the commander on all Sexual Harassment/Assault Response and Prevention (SHARP) Program and policies. They are responsible for the sexual assault prevention training and awareness programs. They communicate directly with the command team regarding sexual harassment/assault cases and provide monthly updates on victims to the Division Commanding General. Their role emphasizes the commitment to foster an environment that rejects sexual harassment/sexual assault and such behaviors. They maintain liaison with the criminal investigative division, chaplain, medical, and legal agencies to facilitate an immediate response. Additionally, they are directly responsible for training and mentoring 44 battalion Victim Advocates (VA) and one DA Civilian.
Role of Brigade Sexual Assault Response Coordinator (SARC)
In the position of Brigade Sexual Assault Response Coordinator (SARC), this individual reviews, interprets, implements, and advises the Brigade Commander on DOD, DA, FORSCOM, and local policies and laws regarding Sexual Harassment/Assault Response and Prevention (SHARP) for a Brigade Combat Team composed of over 4,000 Soldiers and family members. They coordinate, implement, and oversee the execution of the SHARP program and input and manage cases in the Defense Sexual Assault Incident Database (DSAID). They develop, coordinate, and conduct SHARP training and oversee the response to reports of sexual assault and sexual harassment. Additionally, they coach and mentor 27 Victim Advocates and provide and track advocacy services for victims of sexual assault.
Role of BDE SARC
As the Sexual Assault Response Coordinator (SARC) in a Theater Tactical Signal Brigade consisting of four CONUS battalions, this individual serves as the principal advisor to the commander on all Sexual Harassment/Assault Response and Prevention (SHARP) Program policies. They develop and direct training programs for over 2,700 Soldiers and Civilians and conduct briefs to commanders and staff on SHARP Procedures. They identify problem areas and take corrective actions. They are directly responsible for training and mentoring 44 battalion Victim Advocates (VA) and SHARP Specialists. They maintain liaison with the criminal investigative division, chaplain, medical, and legal agencies to facilitate an immediate response.
Role of Company SHARP Advisor
The Company SHARP Advisor is responsible for facilitating the coordination of annual live classroom SHARP training for the unit’s military and GS Civilian personnel. They collect and confirm unit personnel’s annual online SHARP Training certificates and report training statistics to Battalion Collateral Duty SARC. They advise the commander on SHARP policy and regulatory guidance and assist the Battalion SARC and Victim Advocate in posting SHARP Program information appropriately throughout the Company areas.
Role of USASMA Sexual Assault Response Coordinator
As the United States Army Sergeants Major Academy (USASMA) Sexual Assault Response Coordinator, this individual is responsible for the sexual assault prevention training and execution, management, and oversight of the USASMA SHARP program. They ensure all victims of sexual harassment and sexual assault are treated with dignity, fairness, and respect. They are responsible for the training and discipline of one DA Civilian. They communicate directly with the command team regarding sexual harassment/assault cases and provide information and updates on victims to the Commanding General on a monthly basis. Their role emphasizes the commitment to foster an environment that rejects sexual harassment/sexual assault and attitudes that promote such behaviors. They are also responsible for educating leaders on their roles and responsibilities regarding the SHARP program and ensuring sensitive and comprehensive treatment to restore victims’ health and well-being.
Role of Brigade SARC
The Brigade SARC is responsible for managing the Sexual Harassment/Assault Response and Prevention (SHARP) program for the brigade. They communicate directly with the Brigade Commander regarding sexual harassment/assault cases and provide information and updates on victims to the Commanding General on a monthly basis. They provide policy, guidance, and other information for victims of sexual harassment/assault, subordinate unit commanders, first responders, and those who seek to prevent or respond to sexual harassment/assault. Their role emphasizes the commitment to foster an environment that rejects sexual harassment/sexual assault and attitudes that promote such behaviors.
Role of SHARP NCO
The SHARP NCO manages the sexual assault prevention, training, and victim advocacy program. They ensure victims of sexual assault receive guidance and emotional support during administrative, medical, investigative, and legal procedures and ensure victims understand the process. They assign a VA to assist the victim immediately upon notification of an incident of sexual harassment or sexual assault.
Role of SHARP
SHARP provides training on sexual assault recognition and prevention. They aim to establish a safe working environment and encourage a climate of trust and cooperation. They counsel Soldiers on program rights and responsibilities and monitor unit climate assessments, advising the commander on trends. They assist victims of sexual assault in both restricted and unrestricted reporting.
