MOS 25C Radio Operator-Maintainer Duty Descriptions

25C3O/Radio Supervisor

Supervises teams responsible for the installation, operation, and maintenance of single-channel High Frequency (HF), Very High Frequency (VHF), and specialized communication systems, such as the Special Operations Communications Assemblage (SOCA); oversees the installation of radios and associated antennas; ensures proper control and use of Signal Operating Instructions (SOI) and enforces the implementation of Communications Security (COMSEC), Operations Security (OPSEC), and physical security policies.

Senior Radio Telephone Operator (SR RATELO)

Serves as the senior radio telephone operator in an infantry company with a strength of over 130 Soldiers; maintains crucial communication between the company and battalion leadership; receives, processes, disseminates, and tracks critical information accurately and promptly; records all company actions; updates charts and overlays; handles spot reports, messages, and relays messages; takes immediate action upon receiving Commander’s Critical Information Requirements (CCIR) or Essential Elements of Friendly Information (EEFI).

Radio Operator

Performs duties as a Radio Operator; tests, maintains, and ensures operational readiness of all radios at all times; coordinates with maintenance personnel; maintains situational awareness; establishes and maintains secure communication with assigned units and distant ends; monitors all radio traffic continuously; enforces radio discipline; records incoming and outgoing transmissions; promptly communicates changes and updates; keeps supported units informed about current events, changes, and upcoming developments; integrates with the Tactical Operations Center (TOC) and carries out additional assigned duties.

Radio Telephone Operator (RTO)

Serves as the Radio Telephone Operator in a deployed Combat Sustainment Support Battalion supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom VI with a strength of over 1,400 Soldiers; maintains critical communication between companies and battalion leadership; receives, processes, disseminates, and tracks time-sensitive information accurately and promptly; maintains a staff journal using a DA Form 1594; updates charts and overlays; handles spot reports, messages, and message relays; takes immediate action upon receiving Commander’s Critical Information Requirements (CCIR) or Essential Elements of Friendly Information (EEFI).
