MOS 21F, Crane Operator Duty Descriptions

In 2004, the Engineer MOS changed from CMF 12 to CMF 21. In 2009, the Engineer MOS changed again, from CMF 21 to CMF 12.

Crane Operator

Operates crawler and truck-mounted cranes as well as crane shovels. Conducts various operations including clamshell, dragline, wrecking ball, pile driving, and hook block operations. Determines safe lifting capacities for different loads. Installs and removes crane booms, extensions, and hook blocks. Sets up, rigs, and removes crane attachments. Positions crane outrigger assemblies and maneuvers them as necessary. Operates cranes with their respective attachments. Directs operational maintenance on assigned equipment to ensure proper functioning.

Crane Operator (Senior)

Serves as the senior C4 crane operator within the 659th Maintenance Company, 264th Maintenance Battalion, 82nd Sustainment Brigade. Operates cranes and associated equipment. Collaborates with local and military civil engineers to determine work requirements and environmental constraints. Calculates lifting limits based on load characteristics. Analyzes risks and implements safety measures to mitigate potential hazards. Handles the movement and transfer of cargo containers. Provides assistance in combat engineer missions. Also operates various construction equipment. Performs user-level maintenance tasks to ensure equipment functionality and readiness.
