15S20 Team Leader
Serves as the team leader responsible for the administrative care and training of eleven enlisted soldiers. Directs and supervises maintenance activities in support of the Squadron’s 30 OH-58D Kiowa Warrior helicopters. Takes charge of training section members on all assigned equipment, including tents, stoves, and LMTVs. Additionally, holds responsibility as the Troop Communication Noncommissioned Officer in Charge (NCOIC) for the Troop Communication Program.
15S20 Senior Crew Chief
Serves as a Senior Crew Chief in an Air Cavalry Troop within the rapidly deployable 3rd Infantry Division, preparing for deployment in support of Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF). Assumes responsibility for the health, welfare, training, and combat readiness of four 15S10 level helicopter mechanics. Oversees all ground vehicles and equipment of the Troop, including two M-GATORs and one toolbox. Conducts troubleshooting of all systems on the 10 OH-58D(R) Kiowa Warrior aircraft assigned to the Troop, which are collectively valued at over $48 million.
Basic Job Description
The OH-58D Helicopter Repairer primarily undertakes the supervision and maintenance of OH-58D helicopters, also known as ‘Kiowa Warrior’ helicopters.
Duties performed by Soldiers in this MOS include:
- Removing and installing aircraft subsystem assemblies, such as engines, rotors, gearboxes, transmissions, mechanical flight controls, and their components.
- Servicing and lubricating aircraft and subsystems.
- Preparing aircraft for inspections and maintenance checks.
- Performing scheduled inspections and assisting in special inspections.
- Conducting limited maintenance operational checks and assisting in diagnosing and troubleshooting aircraft subsystems using specialized tools and equipment as required.
- Utilizing and performing operator maintenance on tools, special tools, and aircraft ground support equipment.
- Preparing forms and records related to aircraft maintenance.
- Performing aircrew member duties.
Additionally, the 15S20 Helicopter Repairer provides technical guidance to subordinate personnel, performs operational checks and scheduled inspections, and diagnoses and troubleshoots malfunctions in aircraft subsystems.
Training Information
Training for this MOS lasts for 13 weeks and 3 days at Fort Eustis, VA.
