Manportable Air Defense System Crewmember
Serves as a vital member of a portable Air Defense System missile unit and air defense activity assigned to the 5th Battalion, 4th Air Defense Artillery Regiment (5-4 ADAR). Integrates seamlessly with battle management center operations, ensuring situational awareness is maintained at all times. The crewmember is responsible for maintaining secure radio and network communications, while also securely storing, maintaining, and conducting testing of FIM-92A, FIM-92B, and FIM-92C Stinger missiles and their associated Battery Coolant Units (BCUs). In support of the M-SHORAD concept of operations, the crewmember operates the Friend or Foe (IFF) system and carries out tasks such as resupplying ammunition and preparing and firing the Man-Portable Air Defense Systems (MANPADS) when required.
Manportable Air Defense System NCOIC
Assumes the crucial role of the Noncommissioned Officer in Charge (NCOIC) for the fire control of MANPADS. Provides supervision and guidance to subordinate soldiers within the unit. Assists in establishing rules of engagement, ensuring adherence to established protocols. Collects and disseminates intelligence and operations information to support effective decision-making. Updates operational orders (OPORDs), situation maps, and overlays, ensuring accurate and up-to-date information is available to all personnel. Facilitates the transmission of intelligence and grid locations of incoming targets. Prepares for and assists in the movement of the section as required. Plans for ammunition storage and resupply to sustain operational readiness. Additionally, supervises the dissemination of early warning information through the manual SHORAD control system (MSCS) and oversees electronic countermeasures operations.
MOS 14M Operations Sergeant
Served as the Operations Sergeant for the ADAM/BAE cell while deployed and currently serves as the Assistant Operations NCO for the AGI cell in the 4th Brigade Combat Team (BCT), 82nd Airborne Division. Assumes responsibility for the health, welfare, safety, and training of a five-man brigade element, capable of rapid worldwide deployment within 24 hours of notification. Ensures the individual and collective training of the assigned element, ensuring they are prepared for operational requirements. Additionally, holds responsibility for the maintenance and accountability of all section equipment valued in excess of $1.7 million.
